What happened when Jim Laker showed his incredible skills??

Jim Laker

It was the era of English cricket when that historical test match has been played between England and Australia in 1956.

Yes, we are talking here about Jim Laker
Jim Laker is considered as one of the greatest spin bowlers (right arm off spinner) in England cricket history. Yet he is exceptionally known around the globe due to his jaw-dropping test performance in 1956, England vs Australia match played at Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester, England.

In the 4th match of  'The Ashes' series played in 1956, the toss dropped in favour of England, they chose to bat first and putted a good total of 459/10 on the board. Then, the job of England's bowlers started. It takes no more time to grab Laker his first wicket in the match, under the score of only 50, two batsman has been sent to dugout by Laker. Little later, a wicket then taken by the other bowler "Tony Lock"...
Everything was going normally, but soon the Laker's magic got started. The Aussie batsman were not able to figure out the extraordinary deliveries of Jim and devoted all rest of their wickets to Jim.
It took no more time to Jim to demolish the Australian batting line up. The Australian innings was ended at a mere score of 84 struggling almost 40 overs.
Simultaneously, Jim's incredible bowling spell made the world record of taking most wickets in a test inning (9 wickets), offering just 37 runs at a great economy rate of 2.22!

Due to possessing a giagantic lead, Australia was given the follow-on.(according to which trailing team has to play back to back innings to overcome the opponent's lead)
In the 2nd inning of Australia, the Jim's magic wouldn't seems to be decrease, the conditions were favouring his deliveries which were helping him to snatching the wickets, only at the score of 130, Jim had stealed 5 wickets from the Aussies and soon at 203, he gets his 9th wicket of the innings.

Jim Laker's bowling action
The people present there were going to witness a historical moment, which everybody knew to be closeand there it is. At 205, Jim Laker took his 10th wicket of the inning breaking his own world record made only an inning ago. Everyone were in a blow of  shock as Laker done the thing which had never done before.
His magic led team England to win the match by a huge margin of 170 runs and an innings.

Jim conceded only 53 runs in 2nd innings with a stunning economy rate of 1.03 which includes 23 maiden overs from his almost 51.2 overs.

  • Jim Laker still holds the world record for taking highest wickets in a test match (19 wickets) which is seems to be abnormal in dreams too.
  •  The only other bowler to grab 10 wickets in an international test inning is hold by the Indian spinner Anil Kumble in 1999 against Pakistan.
